How to Prepare for Ayahuasca

Don't Research Too Much

Pre- Retreat Preparation

Pre-Retreat Shamanic Restrictions (required)

- 7 days prior to retreat, no other intoxicants or plant medicines.

- 3 days prior to retreat, no sexual activity.

- 7 days prior to retreat, no pork or pork products.

- 3 days prior to retreat, no red meat.

- 1 day prior avoid fermented foods, cheese, mushrooms and other high tyramine foods.

- The day of your first ceremony, please stop eating 5 hours prior to the ceremony start.  This usually means 3PM, unless otherwise indicated.

- NOTE:  please advise if you are taking any new medications, even over the counter meds.  Seemingly innocuous meds like antihistamines are actually quite dangerous.

Optional Practices to Consider as Prep

  • Start, re-start or increase a sitting meditation practice.  NOTE:  If you engage in Kundalini yoga meditations or other meditations that raise the energy up the spine, please hold off on those practices 3 days prior to the retreat and throughout the retreat.  For those 3 days prior and through the retreat, focus on more grounding meditation techniques.

  • Spending time in nature on a regular basis (as a practice).

  • Physical mindfulness practices such as Qi Gong, Tai Chi or Yoga.

  • Contemplation, Prayer, Mantra and/or reading spiritual texts.

  • Art and even colouring books.

  • Floating/sensory deprivation tank sessions.

  • Fasting/cleanse/detox.  Please finish this 2-3 days prior to the retreat.

  • Acupuncture Sessions
